SINGAPORE: The government has appointed a 13-member committee to look into the public transport fare adjustment formula and the framework for fare adjustments.

The committee comprises members from the Public Transport Council, academia, consumer association, labour movement, as well as the private and people sectors.

The Fare Review Mechanism Committee is chaired by Mr Richard Magnus, chairman of the Casino Regulatory Authority and member of the Public Transport Council.

In its statement, the Transport Ministry outlined the terms of reference for the committee.

The committee will review the effectiveness of the current fare adjustment formula and propose improvements.

The revised fare review framework should balance keeping public transport fares affordable with the long-term viability of the public transport operators, while encouraging operators to be efficient and encourage productivity improvement.

The committee will also have to ensure that the views of key stakeholders are adequately represented.

In a post on the committee's website, Mr Magnus said the committee will be working towards a revised fare review framework that will balance keeping public transport fares affordable, especially for those from low-income households, while ensuring that public transport operators remain viable as commercial entities.

He added that finding the right balance is not easy, but the committee is committed to doing the best it can.

MOT said the committee is expected to present its recommendations to the Transport Minister early next year (2013).

Other than taxi services , dun think they categorize taxi as Public Transport .

All articles related inside the blog , not a single involvement of taxi ervices .

In Singapore , u can do anything . . . . juz work smart .

Actually LTA should sent messages to all taxis via MDT or call centre to inform taxi drivers everyday , on which part of Singapore , passengers hard to flag for a cab , then problems solve lor .

Taxi drivers also good , know where to find passengers .

Like TransCab's MDT , put there hang my MDT one .

Silent mode "Activated" one .

At least got messages come in to prove the MDT is working .

And it's time LTA invest more money on a Integrated Network for Booking .

As long as every taxi is installed with a MDT , there should be a Single Network .

A single effective network .

But of course . . . it really looked funny to see such exciting post .

See . . . two guys , one stay east , one stay west , two taxis surely .

Two girls , one stay east , one stay north , another 2 taxis surely .

This type won't take one single cab .

Usually high % . . . west and north can take one cab .

East and NE can take another .

West & East really rare unless boy courting girl .

and nowadays , very rare liao .

West side Boy sent East side girl go home .

rubbish talks lah . utterly rubbish .

I drive so many taxi companies . . . same crap everyday leh .
